- No photo should be the center of the eye.
- "Rule of Thirds": Grid that is 3 by 3 (9 total), each box has a picture in itself.
- Photography captures; painting interpretation.
- Foreground: Closest part of picture, Middle ground: Middle part of picture, background: furthest part of picture
- Tonal: distinction of colors
- Juxtaposition: Taking 2 elements that are different that can be compared.
- Geometric shapes: basic; Organic: shapes contained in nature (free formed)
- Aperture: Control amount of life permitted through the center of camera
- Higher aperture, the smaller the opening. The lower aperture, the higher opening.
- Shutter speed controls length of time that light gets through
